Artist’s Statement
My submission outlines and visualizes the ways in which GENED 1074: The Ancient Greek Hero has shaped a string of my most treasured academic experiences here at Harvard. I came into the course during my first semester of my first year, knowing that I would likely not concentrate in Classics; I was nonetheless excited to dive into an interesting topic outside of my primarily STEM courses. As a visual artist who is drawn to the connections between the often segregated domains of the life sciences and visual arts, this course and the other GENED courses I have taken have allowed me to delve further into intersectional modes of learning and inform my art practice with even more influences. Now a sophomore, my experience of the course has continued to impact how I navigate both academic and personal decisions through the way it has exposed me to intriguing ideas around death, poetry, and the human experience.
